Vibrations in cards can be channelled to heal, solve problems and boost spiritual energy.

I WRITE this column with excitement because I have just returned from New York after learning about Tarot card reading following Cartouche, an oracle of ancient Egyptian method of divination.

I had the rare opportunity to meet Angella A. Focas (pic), an expert and a healer in the Egyptian way of predicting the past, present and future, which has similarities to Indian astrology and Vasthu Sastra.

Based on the horoscope spread of cards, Focas is able to forecast specific time frames relative to an individual’s character, money matters, work and career, love, business and relationships, as well as look at one’s subconscious mind and destiny.

The system she applies is similar to that of Tarot, which uses hieroglyphic symbols found in the pyramids and astrological elements.

According to Focas, Cartouche summarises energies which were known and understood by the ancient Egyptians and act as a bridge between day-to-day things and the spiritual aspect of human experience.

As I sat in silence before her at her sacred space at Quest Books at New York’s 53rd Street, Focas asked me to shuffle a deck of 25 cards.

Each card had symbols of Egyptian goddesses and religious beliefs, pyramids and the elements of fire, air, water and earth.

Next, I was asked to split the deck into four before she spread the cards on the table and started her reading.

Cards 1 to 9 (Osiris, Isis, Horus, Bast, Thoth, Hathor, Nepthys, Ptah and Anubis) represent the major archetypes and cards 11, 12, 13 and 14, the elements of fire, air, water and earth. Cards 15 to 25 (Sirius, Lotus, Crook and Flail, Uraeus, Winged Disc, The Twins, Sphinx, Scarab, Pyramid, Ankh and Buckle of Isis) relate to more general or mundane energies.

Card No. 10 is Set, which represents all forms of opposition, delays, hindrances and unforeseen problems. Set can indicate one’s personal opposition to an idea, to change or a proposed project.

As she flipped open each card, vibrations were passed subconsciously to the cards and the order in which she read was directed by the promptings of her subconscious mind.

“Normally in life we tend to create a barrier between our conscious and subconscious minds through the overuse of logic. Cartouche will help you achieve a subtle balance by creating a bridge of contact between your everyday persona and the needs of your inner self,” said Focas, who is the founder of the Awakening Spirit Holistic Haven.

“Reading the cards is an art and connection that both requires and enhances the development of intuitive and psychic abilities,” she said.

Each card can be used for meditation, divination, healing or talismanic purposes and when arranged in various layouts, can provide insight and answers to dreams, family or emotional problems, financial or business matters, healing and health, protection, or spiritual insight.

Focas was accurate when she did my reading and I was impressed by how the powerful cards can be used for healing and meditation.

Cartouche can also be used to send healing to those in need or to effect self-healing because the cards carry healing rays, particularly Horus, Bast and Thoth, which, respectively, are the conveyor of the life force, the giver of strength and of comfort.

For sending healing to another, an individual has to select a card that will best fit his friend’s needs, place it with an object, photograph or letter that carries the person’s vibrations and let the energies do their work.

Another method is to meditate upon the card and that person and visualise the energies transferring from one to the other.

One of the secrets of successful self-healing is to know which cosmic energies an individual needs and how to tune in to them. If he prefers the psychological approach, he needs to contact those areas of his own mind that can programme in good health and help fight the ailment in a natural way. For example, if you are recovering from surgery, a fever or the flu, Horus is the card to meditate upon.

Cartouche is more concerned with the mind and those mental attitudes that cause the disease. Experts like Focas feel that many ailments are actually induced by wrong thinking. So, if our negative thought patterns are the culprits in the first place, positive thoughts can be used to help put matters right.
