NO BUYING SHOES FOR THE FIRST FIFTEEN DAYS OF THE LUNAR NEW YEAR

What you see are my new shoes.  I bought them to wear for the Chinese Lunar New Year.  From small, I have been constantly reminded that it is not auspicious to buy shoes or other types of footwear from the first until the fifteeenth day of the new year.  Why?  It is because the Cantonese word for shoes is "Hai" which is similar to sighing.  Sighing is a sign of troubles and woes and so one just does not want to have such negative things happening to him or her. 
So I have already bought my footwear.  If I want to buy more, then I need to wait until after the fifteenth day of the first lunar month to do so.
