SCREWPINE LEAVES

The Pandan or screwpine leaf is used for desserts. If we want our rice to be more fragrant, then we add a few pandan leaves while it is boiling. Water boiled with pandan leaves is very refreshing. Pandan is a cooling ingredient in traditional medicines. It helps with bleeding gums and skin disease.
My aunt says that when we are boiling water, we can add 7 - 8 pandan leaves. Drinking the water is said to help reduce cholesterol. However, this has not been scientifically proven.
