According to the Chinese calender, each day is divided into 12 units (時辰). Each of these units is equivalent to two hours of international time. Each is named after one of the twelve Earthly Branches. The first unit, Hour of Zi (子時), begins at 11 p.m. of the previous day and ends at 1 a.m.

Chén 辰 - 0700 a.m. to 0859 a.m. (Dragon double hour)
Sì 巳 - 0900 a.m. to 1059 a.m. (Snake double hour)
Wǔ 午 - 11.00 a.m. to 12.59 p.m. (Horse double hour)
Wèi 未 - 1300 p.m. to 1459 p.m. (Goat double hour)
Shēn 申 - 1500 p.m. to 1659 p.m. (Monkey double hour)
Yǒu 酉 - 1700 p.m. to 1859 p.m. (Rooster double hour)
Xū 戌 - 1900 p.m. to 2059 p.m. (Dog double hour)
Hài 亥 - 2100 p.m. to 2259 p.m. (Pig double hour)
