CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL LEARNING NEEDS

CLASSES FOR CHILDREN WITH LEARNING DIFFICULTIES
Yesterday afternoon, I visited two class rooms at SK Seri Bayu for children who are mentally challenged. The staff whom we talked to said the pupils were those who are autistic, retarded, mongoloid, hyperactive or suffered from other learning difficulties. Actually, I first saw them yesterday morning when I was busy snapping photographs of the Merdeka Day celebrations for the Vision Schools and when I was going home after the course at the PKG, I decided to go in and have a look-see with one of my course mates. At that time, the teachers and children had all gone back to their homes. Only the staff and helpers were around.
As can be seen from the above pictures, the classrooms are well-equipped and there are a lot of teaching aids for these special children. There are three special children in the Tabika and another 18 in the primary classes whose ages may range from 7 to 14. Besides being taught the 3Rs, the children are also taught living skills like learning to cook, to wash clothes and to sew. This is to prepare them to be self-sufficient in life.
