Today is the 29th of February and this day only occurs once in every four years. As my school had its school sports yesterday afternoon, today is a school holiday. Yeah after all the activity running around in the field, I think everyone deserves a rest on this unique day.
I would like to blog about February 29 this morning. This date occurs only every four years, in years evenly divisible by 4, such as 1988, 1996, 2008 or 2016 (with the exception of century years not divisible by 400, such as 1900). These are called leap years, and February 29 is the 60th day of the Gregorian calendar in such a year, with 306 days remaining until the end of that year. February 29 is also known as bissextile day or Leap Day.
A Scottish belief in olden days was that on February 29, marriage minded ladies were allowed to propose to their boyfriends. Leap years according to western folk tradition, were the only times when women could propose marriage to men, with this belief often termed “The Ladies’ Privilege”.
