Over the years, crossed over to Pangkor Island I have either for work or for leisure but never have I visited the Dutch Fort until Friday. It was actually my first visit to this place of historical significance.
The 330 year old stone Foundation of a Dutch Fort is located at Teluk Gedung. It was one of the Dutch strongholds against pirates and local Malays. Actually, during the Dutch occupation in the 17th century, tin supplies from Pangkor and the mainland were stored for protection in this fort. As time goes by, the locals were unhappy with the treatment of the Dutch. So, they managed to destroy the fort sometime in 1690. This is not the end because the Dutch then returned in full force to rebuild the fort.
There is supposed to be a large stone with drawings on it near the Fort but somehow we missed there. Well, there is always a next time.
