The Chinese believe that when a stray dog comes to stay, it is a good omen. A stray dog entering your home is a very favourable sign and would bring good tidings to the occupants.
This is what happened to my mother's neighbours. A few days ago, a daschund entered the gate of their house and has made himself at home. From the looks of it the dog does not appear to be a stray. It must have wandered out from its master's house and lost its way back home.
The neighbours have been waiting for a few days to see if anybody comes around looking for a daschund. My mum told me that the dog has worked its way into the hearts of the neighbours and if no one comes to claim the dog, they are thinking of keeping it as a pet.
