THE BEST LAID PLANS GO ASTRAY

The phrase above comes from Robert Burns's poem "To a Mouse" (1786):
"The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men gang aft a-gley [go often astray]."
This phrase is so well known that it is often abbreviated to "the best-laid plans".
Well, it certainly applies to my plans for this holidays.  At the start of the holidays I had declared that I would be taking my folks to Cameron Highlands and Penang.  Looks like all my planning will go to waste as my mum has been ill for the past few days.  My Aunt Linda isn't feeling too well either.  So I guess I will be spending the holidays at home.  So much for all my planning ...
