ZONG ZI 粽子

Today is the 5th day of the 5th Chinese lunar month and that means it is time to enjoy Zong Zi or glutinous rice dumplings. I love to use the Chinese version as my Malay and Indian friends who visit my blog will learn some new words. My friend Khairiah now knows that Xing Fu means happiness and has even linked my blog to hers. So here is another new word she gets to learn.

The “Rice Dumpling Festival” is also known as “Dragon Boat Festival”. Usually the Zong Zi are bamboo leaves usually shaped into pyramids. There are some which are pillow shaped and squarie shaped as well. The main ingredient is glutinous rice. As for the fillings, one can use a variety of ingredients. I like the ones made by Aunt May the best as she puts in the ingredients that I like to eat and leaves out those that I don't. She will be going back to Ipoh with her grandchildren during the holidays and hopefully she makes zong zi for me. Yummy yummy.
