DELICIOUS AND NUTRITIOUS BAMBOO SHOOTS

I love eating pucuk rebung masak lemak (Bamboo shoots cooked in coconut milk), so much so that whenever I find bamboo shoots growing in the college compound, I'd harvest them and ask Kamariah to cook them for me.
Now these shoots are not only delicious but are also rich in nutrients, and rank among the five most popular healthcare foods in the world. In Japan, the bamboo shoot is called the King of Forest Vegetables.
The health benefits of bamboo shoots include healthy weight loss, control of bad cholesterol, strengthening of the immune system, possible cancer-fighting properties and anti-inflammatory properties. It is heart friendly, contains protein, a sufficient supply of vitamins and minerals and a negligible amount of fat. It also contains a significant amount of dietary fiber.
