ORIGIN OF THE CUMBERBATCH SURNAME

The name Sherlock is pretty unusual. The character's brother is named Mycroft which is also very rare.  The latest actor to play the famous British sleuth has a name that is really uncommon, Benedict Cumberbatch.
It is because the name is so unusual that people will instantly remember it.  I searched the Internet and found out that Cumberbatch is a modern variant of the surname Comberbach which means "dwellers in a valley with a stream". It was inherited from a village called Comberbach in Cheshire, England and this topographical description is an accurate description of the place.
