SILK FLOWERS FOR CHINESE NEW YEAR
Flowers are a must as decorations for Chinese homes during the Lunar New Year. Why? This is because flowers symbolise spring and the blossoming of flowers gives the connotation of prosperity.
During the festive season, fresh cut flowers are very expensive but don't last long. That is why many will turn to silk flowers as they will last a long time eventhough they may cost a bit.
The pictures above were taken at the Kampung Koh Market in Sitiawan. One of the stalls was selling the lovely silk flowers. When I enquired about the price, I was pleasantly surprised that they cost much less than in the shops. Furthermore, the quality of the flowers were similar to those at the stores and shops. I bought two stalks of 2 feet high sunflowers for RM12 each. At the shop, it costs at double.
