OFFERING PRAYERS AT THE TEMPLE ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE LUNAR MONTH

The Chinese can go and offer prayers and incense at the temples on any day but the most popular days are on the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month. Why?  I am not too sure.  Perhaps it is because the first day is the day of the new moon and the fifteenth is when the moon is full.
My mum usually does the special prayers for the deities installed in her house on these two days.  There are some who make it a point to visit the temples to pray on the first and fifteenth.  As today is the first day of the tenth lunar month and I am on holiday, I paid a visit to the Kuan Yin Temple in Lumut this morning with Lai Yoong and her sister, Lai Chin this morning.  Besides offering incense and joss paper, the three of us also lit lotus candles for the Goddess.
