NAMNAM

Yesterday was the first time that I learnt about the Buah Namnam or Namnam Fruit.  It was my friend, Khairah, who gave them to me.  She said that she had gotten them from her mum's garden.  Its botanic name is Cynometra cauliflora L. from the Greek word 'Kynos' which means dog and metra meaning genitals because of its shape.  This plant is a native of Malaysia.  The fruit is known as Katak Puru.
The fruit which is rich in Vitamin C can be eaten raw.  It is also used as an ingredient in a Malaysian dish called Rojak.
Khairah gave me three Namnam fruits but I have yet to eat one.  So, I am not too sure how it tastes.  I was told that the ripe ones taste sourish.
