Amir's dad, Ishak, was one of three persons who read the first draft of my book in 2005, the other two were Haji Hasnin and Lai Yoong.
As a matter of fact, it was Ishak who helped me to come up with the title of the book, "Red Occasions". Initially, I had intended to name the book, "Red and White Occasions" as I wanted to write about birthdays, marriages, grand openings, moving house and funerals. Incredibly it was he who pointed out to me that one should not mix red and white occasions in one book as it was not auspicious. So, he suggested that I touch only on Red Occasions. Hmm ... I guess he knows a thing or two about Chinese culture. By the way, Ishak's maternal grandfather was a Chinese.
