GREEN ROOF

Yesterday while I was driving along the Pasir Panjang Road to the Teacher Activity Centre to hand in some forms, something caught my attention.  It is a house which appears to have a green roof.  Technically a green roof is a roof of a building that is partially or completely covered with vegetation and a growing medium, planted over a waterproofing membrane.  I don't think that the owner.
However, I am not too sure if this particular house has a waterproof membrane.
Here is a picture of me posing in front of the house with the living green roof.
The house owner, Encik Khir, told me that all the greenery on the roof comes from this one plant.  See the knotted trunk.
The owners of the house, Encik Khir and Puan Rosnah.  Encik Khir said that he planted the tree about 15 years ago and it has kept growing and growing covering inch by inch of the roof.  So far more than two-thirds of the roof has already been covered.  The owners told me that once in a while they get tourists stopping by to take photographs of their house with the green roof.
Here is a close-up of the leaves and flowers of the plant.
Puan Rosnah told me that sometimes the plant bears a lot of yellow flowers and the roof looks spectacular.  I must make it a point to witness such a sight.  Trouble is, I would not be too sure when that happens to be.
