Difficult though it was but I managed to coax my mum to climb up the 159 steps leading to the temple. She took three steps at a time and then rested for a minute or two before proceeding upwards. We took longer breaks at the rest places. In the above pictures we were resting at the pavilion. At that time there was a lovely breeze blowing. I was told that this was the breathe of the dragon.
It is the firm belief of many of the worshippers that those who believe and have the tenacity to ascend the hill will receive the blessings of the deities. I was told that some of the worshippers carry their elderly on their backs to take them up the hill while others place them on a chair and carry them up.
