BEDAK SEJUK

The white clumps you see above are actually rice that had been soaked for a long time and it will eventually be made into smaller bits.  In Malaysia, we call it Bedak Sejuk or Rice Powder.  I am not sure if the younger generation are familiar with it but people of my generation use it as a beauty mask.  As a matter of fact, the bedak sejuk which was left out to dry under the sun was made by Mak Uda whom I visited today to get some herbs.
When pandan leaves and fragrant flowers haven't been added to the bedak sejuk, it smells terrible.  Mak Uda kept apologising for the smell.  One can rest assured that this is a self made beauty product which has no chemicals.
By the way the bedak sejuk is supposed to help whiten the skin and also get rid of pimples.  I read somewhere that for a smooth complexion, tamarind juice, tumeric and a bit of water is added to the bedak sejuk.
