Believe it or not, people in China boil chicken eggs in the urine of young boys. These eggs are known as Virgin eggs (童子蛋). Yucks! I think they should be called Urine Eggs instead.
It is a Chinese belief that boy’s urine has medical benefits. The believers say that these virgin eggs are good for clearing spring drowsiness and summer heat. According to traditional Chinese medicine, Virgin Eggs will restore diminished yin, decrease body heat and improve blood circulation.
How do they go about cooking the eggs?
The urine of the young boys is used to boil eggs, their shell cracked to allow the flavour to slip through, then
soaked in urine and boiled again. The whole “cooking” process takes an entire day.
And how do they go about collecting the urine of virgin boys? Easy peasy, just place pails outside the classrooms and when the boys want to wee wee, they just go and do their business in the pails.
For the life of me, I would not eat such eggs.
