KATHIRA DRINK

I had been eyeing the Air Kathira (also spelled Khatira or Katira) or Kathira Drink for a few days already. The kathira gum is a tree-extract. It comes in either powder form or a lump as in the above picture.

I saw it being sold at all the Ramadhan Bazaars that I have visited so far.  It is a cooling drink made with evaporated milk, pandan-flavoured syrup, kathira gum, biji selasih (basil seeds) and buah kembang semangkuk (Malva nuts). I did a check in the Internet and found that some vendors also add grass jelly (cincau), raisins and shredded dates into this drink.

How did it taste like?  The one that I had tasted like milk with pandan flavour.  Not bad.
