ZAM ZAM WATER

My librarian, Vandana, is holding up a bottle of Zam Zam water which is sold for RM12.00.  The Muslims regard this water as sacred as it is taken from the Zam Zam well which is located within the Masjid al Haram (Al Haram Mosque) in Mecca, 20 meters east of the Kaaba, the holiest place in Islam.  According to Islamic belief, it was a miraculously-generated source of water from God, which began thousands of years ago when Ibrahim's infant son Ishmael was thirsty and kept crying for water and was kicking at the ground when water gushed out. Millions of pilgrims visit the well each year while performing the Hajj or Umrah pilgrimages, in order to drink its water.
The Zam Zam water was used in a blessing ritual for the library today.  The ustaz or religious teacher recited prayers onto the water and then one of my boys sprinkled the holy water in all the nooks and corners of the library for the cleansing ritual.
