DUMPLINGS
One of the food that is eaten by the Chinese in China during the Lunar New Year or Spring Festival is the Dumpling or Kao Zhi. The shape of the dumpling resembles a gold nugget and is symbolic of the arrival of good fortune. The ingredients for the dumplings are usually what is considered auspicious by the Chinese and would signify the wishes of the people for the new year. Some of the ingredients used for the fillings are peanuts (representing longevity and good health), honey and sugar (symbolising the days ahead being full of sweetness). Sometimes coins and jewellery may be placed inside the dumpling and whoever finds one in their dumplings would have a year filled with good fortune.
