I drove my mum and Aunt Linda to Saint Michael's church in Ipoh this afternoon. My aunt had wanted to go and pray at the church. Unfortunately, the caretaker was not around and she could not go into the church.
Actually, my mum, aunt and I have very fond memories of this church as all of us studied at Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus which was just across the road. During our time in school, the sisters would bring the students over to Saint Michael's church for Mass during special Christian festivals.
I even have fonder memories as I used to wait outside the church for my dad to send me home after school each day. The late Mr Cheah taught in Sam Tet, a missionary school which is located near the church. Sometimes he would be late in coming out and I would go inside the church while waiting for him. Being inside the place gave me a sense of peace and serenity.
There certainly seemed to be a lot of changes made to the outside of the church. The statue of Saint Michael was not there and neither was the pavilion for the statue of Lady Fatima. One of these days I will go with my aunt again to this church to see the changes that have been made.
