FOREVER AND EVER: 1919

The Chinese have a fondness of using numbers for their businesses. If you happen to visit Sitiawan, you'd notice that numbers are used for the names of many of the coffee shops. In Ipoh, there is one restaurant called 1919. In Cantonese, 1919 or 'yat kou yat kou' (in Cantonese) would phonetically sound like forever and ever.
The Chinese by nature are very Kiasu (afraid to lose) and so they would make sure that they hold auspicious or Red Occasions at a restaurant with an auspicious sounding name.
My aunt, mum and I went for lunch at 1919 yesterday. It is one of our favourite restaurants as the food there is really delicious. We have been frequenting that place for more than 20 years and are familiar with the management. Sadly, it was also there that we had our last reunion dinner for Chinese New Year with my late father. He passed away two day later on the second day of lunar new year.
