THE THIRD EYE ACCORDING TO HINDUISM AND BUDDHISM

I did an earlier post about Sharveen putting on a pottu on his forehead to help strengthen his Third Eye while sitting for his examination. What actually is this Third Eye?
As we all know, humans have two eyes (unless they are born deformed). However, there is also a third eye or the eye of the mind and soul. In Eastern spiritual traditions, the third eye is a mystical and esoteric concept referring in part to the ajna (brow) chakra. is also spoken of as the gate that leads within to inner realms and spaces of higher consciousness.
In Hinduism and Buddhism, the third eye is a symbol of enlightenment. In the Indian tradition, it is referred to as the eye of knowledge, which is the seat of the 'teacher inside' or antar-guru. The third eye is the sixth chakra also known as brow chakra or brow centre.
Many Hindus wear a tilak between the eyebrows to represent the third eye. The primary functions of the third eye are direct perception, intuition, imagination, visualization, concentration, Self-mastery , Extra Sensory Perception.
