Have you ever had the experience of visiting a Taoist Temple during one of the festivals? If you have then you would know how it is to walk into a smoke filled place with the threat of people carrying big bunches of lighted joss-sticks that might burn you. I took the picture of myself right after I came out from the main temple after I performed the prayers. What a sight, eh? Well, there are others who had noses looking like Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer when they came out so I was slightly better off.
Anyway, the smoke from the burning incense is said to help cleanse a person of negative energies, spirits or influences and so it was well worth it.
