I am currently engrossed in watching a TV drama called Chinese Paladin 3 which is about mortals, fairies, deities and demons. It really is an interesting watch. The most attractive features of the drama are the ultra telegenic leads and the beautiful period costumes.

One of the main characters in the drama is that of a Taoist priest played by Wallace Huo. This character is one of the disciples of a sect whose aim is to rid the world of evil. The disciples learn the ways of the Tao as well as ghostbusting skills from young. Besides using the sword, these priest also employ the use of the Wu Lou to absorb evil spirits into it for imprisonment. The Taoists believe that the natural Wu Lou has the ability to absorb bad Qi and negative energy. In a few of the episodes, I have seen this priest using the Wu Lou to catch evil spirits. Also I noticed that the gourd used had talisman written on it to add to its potency. It is a common practice of these priests to write talisman and draw the Bagua on the wu lou for extra protection and also to attract special luck. Reference: http://twimt.com
By the way, I don't think Taoist priests (ancient and present day included) look anything like Wallace Huo. If they did then it would be a great loss to the female population as these priests like their Buddhist and Catholic counterparts have made a vow of celibacy.
