The baby in the arms of the wrinkly old lady is not her grandchild but her daughter. This picture was taken in 2005 when Adriana Iliescu gave birth at the age of 66 years and 230 days. The child was conceived through IVF procedure.
Adriana is 70 years old now and her daughter Eliza is 3. They get by with her pension and also money Adriana earns from lecturing at the university.
I am sure that when Adriana was contemplating on having her child there would have been many people discouraging her. Of course, the issue of whether she would be able to live long enough to see her child grow up would have been brought up and also her fitness to bear the child and then take care of it.In the bible and the Quran, there are stories of very elderly ladies giving birth to perfectly normal babies and they actually lived long enough to see them grow up. Can we safely say that a twenty something mother will be able to live long enough to see her children become adult? Not really, eh! Who knows Adriana might prove everyone wrong and live until the grand age of ninety by which time her daughter will be 23 years of age.
