PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE

Everyday in the media, we keep reading or hearing about the number of people infected with the H1N1 virus and also of those who died because of it. Scary, isn't it?

There was a talk by an officer from the health department today to give awareness about this virus as quite a number of the students in my school are having flu-like symptoms. To make matters worse, the weather has also been hazy for the past week. We were all advised to wear face masks whenever we are in a public place. The school provided everyone with masks.

To prevent H1N1, people should practice common sense hygiene – wash hands often, cover coughs and sneezes, and stay home when ill to avoid spreading illness.
In general influenza can cure by itself. However, you need to get immediate treatment at the hospital if you are having the following symptoms:
  • Respiratory Illness: nasal congestion, lips turning bluish/purplish in colour.
  • Coughing our blood or phlegm with blood.
  • Continuous chest pains.
  • Frequent diarrhoea or vomiting.
  • Continuous fever for more than 3 days or fever recurring after three days of recovery.
  • Abnormal behaviour, confused, not too responsive to stimulus or fits.
  • Dizziness when standing.
  • Joint Aches
