PRAYING TO HOU TOU FIRST

Those Chinese who go and pray to their ancestors who were buried in cemeteries would first offer prayers to Hou Tou when they reach the ancestral grave. The Hou Tou is the tomb guard and his duty is to look after the tomb. As the status of the Hou Tou is higher than ones ancestor, prayers should be offered to him first.
