I met one of my friends, Eric, today. This is another Eric. I happen to have quite a number of friends who go by this moniker. Well, Eric told me that his wife gave birth to a baby girl and he named her Caryn in the hope that she'd grow up to be a caring person. I asked him if he had looked up the meaning of the name somewhere to ascertain that it meant caring but he said he chose it because it sounded like caring. Well, I did a quick search and found out that the name Caryn is actually a modern version of the name Karen and it means pure.
Similarly, Kamariah told me that the Malays are also very careful in selecting names for their newborns. They'd choose names for their children in the hope that they will reflect the qualities the name bears. For example, the name Noor would mean light.
For your information, my name Lina can be a name in Arabic, Russian, Chinese and a host of nationalities. It means gentle and compassionate. Hmmm .... let me see, compassionate, maybe but gentle, nah!
