OF CANDIED FRUITS AND COCONUT TOFFEES

Sweet stuff served in candy tray

During the Chinese New Year, the Chinese would really max up on the symbolic stuff and many of the food served would have some auspicious meaning to attract wealth, happiness, health and longevity. During visits to kins, relatives and friends, they would usually find the candy tray filled with an assortment of sweet food. The food in the candy tray has to be sweet with the hope that everyone will have a year that is full of sweetness.
The above shows some types of candies in a candy tray. The lotus root symbolises abundance, coconut chews represent togetherness, fertility is represented by the water-chestnuts and lotus seeds and wealth is symbolised by the carrots and snake gourd.
