CHINESE WEDDING CAKES 喜餅 嫁女餅

One of the traditional practices during a Chinese wedding is the delivery of gifts which is referred to as ‘Guo Da Li’ in Mandarin. This ceremony is a symbolic affirmation of the man's intention to marry the girl. It is also a display of respect and also shows the groom’s ability to support a family after marriage. It is usually carried out a month or a few weeks before the actual marriage date. One of the items is the Chinese Wedding Biscuit.
As can be seen in the above pictures, there are pink and yellow wedding cakes. Traditionally they were round but the ones I saw at a coffee shop in Menglembu last week were heart shaped.
