Don't be heedless of merit
("It won't come to me').
A water jar fills,
even with water
falling in drops
With merit - even if
bit
by
bit
habitually -
the enlightened ones fills
himself full.

From: The Heart of A Buddha

MY COMMENT
I was got a little booklet titled "The Heart of A Buddha" which was distributed free by some kind Buddhists at a temple that I frequent. The quotes from the teachings of Buddha are deeply profound and the messages are of love, charity, compassion and kindness.
As mentioned above, a jar will be filled with drops of water over a period of time. Similarly, every little good deed that we do will eventually amount to a lot. Even helping your neighbour to water their plants when they are not around is also a act of kindess that deserves merit. Thinking good thoughts and saying kind words to our friends and colleagues might not register as a good deed to some but believe me, it is. So, with understanding and lovingkindness, we should look within ourselves in order to find happiness, wisdom and serenity. Then, we will find within our very selves the "Heart of a Buddha".
