When Emperor Qianlong (乾隆帝) was in power China attained its maximum territorial expanse. Commerce was thriving, handicraft industries prospered, and painting, printmaking, and porcelain manufacture flourished.
Coins minted during his reign are much treasured by collectors as they are believed to be imbued with essence of wisdom andliteracy. Having such a coin in ones possession is said to help usher in the wisdom and literacy of Wen Chang as during Qianlong's reign, there were many civil ministers of high calibre and quite a number of the citizens were literate.
