COSMETIC COMMERCIALS AND SHUAI KERS

Kwon Sang Woo for The Face Shop
Wu Chun for Guerlain
Vic Chou for Lancôme

What were international cosmetic companies like , Guerlain, Lancôme and The Face Shop thinking when they got male celebrities like (shuai ker 帅哥) Vic Chou, Wu Chun and Kwon Sang Woo to endorse their products? Well, of course they were thinking of the huge female fan bases who would rush to get the products that the 'leng chais' are advertising! You must admit that the companies have come up with a very clever marketing ploy! I think it is a departure from using female celebrities.

I don't think the three "leng chais" (this means handsome hunks in Cantonese) use the cosmetics (or do they?) except when they are in front of the cameras but their star appeal is enough to get the ladies to rush to the stores to get the products. Interestingly, the three male celebrities who were chosen are of different nationalities. Kwon Sang Woo is Korean, Wu Chun is a Bruneian of Chinese descent and Vic Chou is a Taiwanese Aborigines (yeah, I did wonder why he looked more like a Filipino or a Malaysian than a Chinese).

I guess this is a win-win-win situation for all - the ladies are happy to oogle at the good looking men during the endorsement ceremonies/commercials, the celebrities get paid handsomely for looking what else but handsome and the companies get to up their sales of whatever they are promoting. Its triple happiness (三幸福) for all parties. Who else are they going to ask next that would be eye candy for the ladies? Hmmm ... they might try asking our Malaysian astronaut, Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor. Believe me, he is THE Malaysian Shuai Ker.
