I accidentally broke my crystal vase this evening. So sad!!! I bought it when I studied in England and it cost me quite a bit. What to do? I can't glue it bad. To do so would not be too auspicious. We are not supposed to keep broken or cracked things at home.
During Chinese New Year it is not too auspicious to break anything especially glass. If we were accidentally to do so, my elders taught me to quickly utter an auspicious phrase which means something like "Down the floor the flower blossoms, prosperity forever" in the hope that the positive words would negate the taboo of breaking the glass.
However, my godmother told me that if we find that our abode or business premise might be harbouring something 'dirty' or 'evil' we can also deliberately break or smash glass/ceramic ware to frighten them off. Also the impact of the broken stuff would sort of help clear the place of any negative qi.
