Nowadays it is not only the Chinese in Malaysia that will pay money to get a car registration plate number of their choice. In the above picture, my Toyota Vios is parked next to the Toyota of the senior teacher for languages, Puan Siti Kamariah, of my school. Her plate number is 1969 which is the year of her birth. Another of my colleague who ordered a Honda City is also paying for the number 2668 which is his birthdate, 2nd of June, 1968. Both my colleagues numbers sound very auspicious if you pronounce them in Chinese. 1969 would mean "sure to keep on moving forever" and 2668 "easy to prosper all the way". By the way, my friend Pn Kamariah and I helped my colleague, Rosli, to come up with the auspicious combination for his car. When he gets his car, I'll follow him to the showroom to take pictures of him and his brand new car.
