This morning at school, one of my good friends, Cikgu Ishak Ismail gave me two big boxes of Lokam oranges. Each box had 65 which means I got 130. This is such an auspicious present to receive. The Cantonese word for Lokam orange is kum which sounds like gold in Chinese so receiving a two boxes of them would symbolise having gotten two boxes of gold. He told me that I could give the Lokam to the teachers during the staff meeting today but I didn't do so. Why? Firstly, it would be rather rude to receive a gift and then give it out immediately to others. Then as this is the Chinese New Year season, it would not be too auspicious giving away "gold" that has been given by someone. I would take them home first and keep them for a couple of days. When my friends, relatives and students come, then I will share it with them.
Then in the afternoon at around 3.30 p.m, I got a call from my friend, Puan Kamariah. She asked me if I would be still around in the evening as she wanted to give me a Chinese New Year treat. Of course, I was around and duly at 5.30 p.m, she and her two children met me at McDonald's for a meal. See, I got two cartons of "gold" and a prosperity meal from people I like very much. Don't you think I am doubly blessed. What a good start to the year of the Rat!
By the way, see the pretty little girl in the photos above, her name is Nurin Wafa. She resembles her mother and undoubtedly she'd grow to be a beauty like Puan Kamariah. Incidentally, she is my god-daughter. Heh! Heh!
