MY NGA KU PLANT
My late Aunt May made it a point to plant arrowroot (nga ku) bulbs on the 16th day of the 12th lunar month (otherwise known as Mei Ngar). She said that it was about two weeks to the new year. Aunt May was the one who told me that it was auspicious to have the nga ku plant on new year's day and then right throughout the 15-day celebration. She told me that if we plant the bulbs and that they do not grow, then it would be an indication that the year might not be so bountiful.
