CHILDREN FROM RUMAH WAWASAN VISIT THE HERB GARDEN

This morning 14 boys and girls from Rumah Wawasan Sitiawan paid a visit to the Herb Garden at my college.  Rumah Wawasan is the idea of Reverend Doctor Daniel to shelter orphaned, abandoned and destitute children.  As far as I know, there are three such homes in Perak.  Besides Sitiawan, there is one in Ipoh and another in Teluk Intan.
Dr Daniel had written to the director of the college to request for permission to take the children for an educational visit to the Herb Garden.  They intend to start a Herb Garden for the Home in Sitiawan as their project and wish to learn about herbs and their uses.
You can see me giving the welcoming speech to the children and Dr Daniel in the picture above.
Here I am looking on as my student, Izzat, briefs the visitors about the Herb Garden.
Izzat Iskandar giving an introduction about the Herb Garden and also the herbs in it.
Izzat Izhar waiting to serve the packed nasi lemak to our guests.
Lai Yoong, Kamariah and Khairah look on as Izzat gives the briefing.

Khairah and Mariam volunteered to help out on a Saturday morning.
After the meal, Izzat starts explaining to the children how to go about the activity that has been planned for them.
Kamariah's daughter, Nureen also came along to help out.  Here she is with two of the girls from the Home.

Here I am showing the Tutup Bumi plant to Dr Daniel.

After the activity, Mariam presents the prizes to the team that managed to get the names of the herbs correct within the given time.

Khairah helps to present the goodie bags I have prepared for the children.

Here you see me with four of the five boys who helped out in this programme.  I thanked them for their help and told them that we might be expecting a visit from members of the Senior Citizen's Club in the future.  After that they helped me to clean up before we called it a day.
