Valentine prankster places heart-shaped cutouts on traffic lights
By FONG KEE SOON
Love at first ‘light’: The heart is illuminated when the traffic light turns red. This traffic light is located at the intersection of Jalan Leong Boon Swee and Jalan Pasir Puteh.
DON’T believe in love at first sight?
Never mind, there is always love at first “light”, at least at two traffic light junctions here.
A prankster, who is probably still in the mood for love in view of Valentine’s Day last week, has placed heart-shaped cutouts on the red light.
The “heart” would illuminate when the traffic light turns red. This was seen at the intersection of Persiaran Medan Ipoh and Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah.
It can also be spotted at the intersection of Jalan Leong Boon Swee and Jalan Pasir Puteh.
Kinta district engineer Abu Bakar Mohd Said, when contacted, said he would send his workers to check on the traffic lights.
“We will remove it as it is tampering with the traffic lights,” he said.
Furthermore, he said the public should be mindful about the law and regulations in expressing their creativity.
However, residents here found it quite amusing.
Motorcyclist Mohd Hazim Nazari, 24, said it was a creative way to promote safe driving.
“It reminds me to be careful and to think of my loved ones while on the road.”
“I also believe that it will put a smile on the faces of drivers,” said Mohd Hazim.
Ipoh Garden East resident Marcus Chan said he did not notice the heart shape lights at all when he was drove past the intersection of Persiaran Medan Ipoh and Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah.
“I usually can’t wait for the red light to turn green. Maybe that’s why I didn’t realise it,” said the 31-year-old.
