OWLS AS SYMBOLS OF LUCK IN JAPAN

I have been collecting figurines and images of owls since my university days in England.  Somehow, I find these birds really cute and adorable.  Do you know that in Japan as they are said to bring good luck, fortune, health and love. The pronunciation of the Japanese word for owl is “fookuroh” or “fukuroh”. The entire word itself contains two characters with very distinct meanings. Kuroh means hardship while fu itself means “not”, so if they are combined will give the meaning of “no hardship”.  That is why the owl is one of the most popular lucky charms in Japan and the Japanese like to present them as gifts for friends and family.
Each lucky owl with different colors may symbolizes different meanings.

The different colours symbolise the following:-
  • White for Happiness
  • Pink for Love
  • Yellow for Peace
  • Black for Health
  • Red for Good Luck
  • Green for Dream
  • Gold for Wealth
