MAS COTEK

I was terribly upset when I found out that two pots of Mas Cotek plants from the Herb Garden went missing.  I suspect that someone had stolen them but alas there is no CCTV there and so I could not prove anything.  I had planted the two pots of plants in 2007 when I took over the resource centre and it is really frustrating to know that there is a person out there who would resort to such an act during the holy month of Ramadan.
The two plants that you see in the above picture were bought by me on Thursday.  I had gone to the nursery to look for a male and a female Mas Cotek plant to replace the lost ones.
Here you see Surendran helping to dig a hole to do the planting.  However, after digging for a few minutes, we found that the ground was not suitable for planting and decided to use big flower pots instead.
The plant on the left is the female plant while the one on the right is the male plant.  The male plant has longer and smaller leaves while the female has rounder and broader leaves.

Mas Cotek, also known as "mistletoe fig" Based on traditional knowledge, the leaves, fruits, stems and roots of Mas Cotek display healing, palliative and preventative properties.  Mas Cotek plant species are male and female. The leaves of female species are big and round in shape, while the male species are small, round and long in shape.
Traditionally used as a postpartum depression treatment to help in contracting the muscles of the uterus and in the healing of the uterus and vaginal canal, it is also used as a libido booster by both men and women. The leaves of male and female plants are mixed in specific proportions to be taken as an aphrodisiac. Among the traditional practices, Mas Cotek has been used for regulating blood pressure, increasing and recovering sexual desire, womb contraction after delivery, reducing cholesterol, reducing blood sugar level, treatment of migraines, toxin removal, delay menopause, nausea, joints pains, piles pain and improving blood circulation.
Mas cotek leaf can be plucked and chewed fresh. It can also be dried for preservation. When required, boil the dried leaf and consumed for energy.
