Decluttering Books and Magazines
Here are some decluttering strategies for books and magazines:

When you start to declutter your stuff, gather them all into one area, if you can. Next, sort them by subject matter or by magazine name (and date).
  • Sometimes, it's kind of difficult to decide which cookbooks to keep and which ones to discard. The answer is : keep only those cookbooks that fit into your current lifestyle, taste, and budget.
  • If your work involves gathering and using information, before you throw away anything, you will need to check whether your books, magazines, and other sources of information are current and still creditable.
  • It is important to keep books and magazines that are necessary for your work in one place, so that you do not waste time searching for information in various parts of your home or business space.
  • Reference materials, such as encyclopedias, usually need to be kept up-to-date. In fact, there are a number of excellent encyclopedias online and on CDROM - these take up very little space on your bookshelf or desk.
  • Donate the remainder to your local library or your favorite charitable organization. You may also wish to transcribe or copy your favorite recipes and place them in a binder.
  • If you are keeping a magazine because you are need one particular article, simply photocopy the item or scanned it.
  • Photographic magazines are often hard to let go of because of their array of pictures of usually exceptional quality. Your best solution would be again to give them to your local library or school, where they will be appreciated and used and where you can still access them whenever you want.
  • Consider donating the intact magazines to your local library or your doctor's waiting room. Review your folder yearly to see which articles-if any-you have used during that time, and then decide which should be kept and which thrown out.
Decluttering Your Computer
Just like your actual desktop, your desktop screen tends to accumulate clutter:
  • All files and folders should be organized and stored in a neat manner on your screen.
  • To avoid the feeling of work hanging over your head, don't let your inbox overflow with e-mails. Develop files to organize and store your e-mails.
  • Create folders in which to store your shortcuts and applications.
  • Choose a background screen color that soothes your eyes. Purple is an auspicious color and calming for the mind.
  • Display a soothing nature screen saver. Mountain or ocean scenes will promote stability and charge your computer screen with chi.
