PENYAPU LIDI USED TO GET RID OF EVIL SPIRITS

Nowadays not many people use the Penyapu Lidi (Palm Ekel Broomstick) to sweep their compound or the kitchen area.  To the youngsters, it is something from a bygone era.  However, the Penyapu Lidi is still sold as it is used in some households.
Besides being used to sweep away rubbish, there are some who believe that this type of broom can be used to sweep away evil spirits.  However, the broom must be used and cannot be brand new.  If not it won't work.  There are some village folk (and the superstitious townfolk) who'd place the penyapu lidi against the back door to prevent burglars from entering the house.
