RED CLOTH TO INDICATE JOY AND HAPPINESS

It is a Chinese custom to give little pieces of red cloth  to all the immediate neighbours to put on the front of their houses.   Red is the sign of happiness and by giving it to the neighbours, it is an indication that joy be with them.  The house of the bereaved  family can be singled out by the fact that red decorates all the doors in the area except theirs.
