'ORANG MINYAK' SIGHTINGS

Through the local grapevine, I found out there have been sightings of the Orang Minyak or Oily Man.  For those who haven't a clue what an Orang Minyak is, he is basically a man who creeps about when night falls.  He is described as completely naked and covered in black oil. The covering of oil would camouflage him at night and also makes him very slippery which helps him evade capture and also helps him squeeze pass tight spaces such as between the bars on a window.

Usually, the appearance of the Orang Minyak is really associated with burglaries and rapes  which were committed by men who had taken off their clothings and covered themselves with oil and grease. 

However, legend has it that the Orang Minyak is a supernatural in origin, or invisible to non-virgins, or both. with the ability to   slip through spaces too small for humans to do so. It is said that the Orang Minyak had made a pact with the Devil. In return for giving him supernatural powers and wordly desires, the Oily Man must rape 21 virgins in 7 days.

There is this belief that should a single woman have sweaty clothes worn by males by their side, the orang minyak would be led to believe that they are with a man.  Another self protection for females is to bite ones left thumb and cover it with batik.

I was told that a mother and her children saw an Orang Minyak at a
playground.  She quickly took her children from the place.  I said that
if it were me who saw the guy at the playground, I'd quickly take out
my camera and take his photo to send to the Press and give a copy to
the Police.
