DOING IT OUT OF LOVE FOR STUDENTS

I had my session with the Elite Class last night.  My class was from 8.30 p.m. until 10.30 p.m.  I taught the boys and girls strategies on how to answer the questions for Paper 2 of their English Language SPM 1119 Examination.  The boys and girls had a full day of classes from 8.00 a.m to 10.00 a.m., then 10.30 a.m. until 12.30 p.m., 3.00 p.m. until 5.00 p.m and finally 8.30 p.m. until 10.30 p.m.

The teachers involved in carrying out the 3-day special classes for them were mostly senior teachers who have a lot of experiences in setting and marking examination papers. All except one have been teaching for more than 15 years. See, that is how experienced the teachers who volunteered to teach the students are.

Since I was busy with the videotaping for the Innovation Competition I did not prepare the powerpoint presentation and notes for last night's lesson until yesterday afternoon.  It took me from 3.00 p.m. until 6.00 p.m. to get everything ready. 

This morning it will be Kamariah's and Haji Hasnin's turn to carry out the special classes.  They will be giving pointers on the continuous writing and directed writing components of the 1119 English Language Paper 2.

I had to end the class at 10.40 p.m. eventhough I had more to share with the boys and girls as it was getting late.  Besides, it had begun to rain heavily.  Kamariah who happens to be the co-ordinator for this programme presented me with a goodie bag containing pens, a bun and a bottle of mineral water.  As a token of appreciation, the teachers who took part in the programme were given RM40 to cover their travelling expenses.   I heard that some schools pay teachers who teach their students during the holidays a few hundred ringgit.

By the way, most of the teachers used their own money to photocopy notes for the students and some bought snacks for the students as well.  Me?  I boiled Roselle Juice for them.  See I told you that we were doing it out of love for our students and not for the sake of money.
